Margaux

The Margaux appellation is the largest in the Médoc with almost 1500 ha of vineyards on generally gravel over limestone/clay subsoils. It covers the 'communes' (parishes) of Margaux, Cantenac, Soussans, Arsac and Labarde, with specific plots of land permitted and prohibited within each of these. They are 18 Grands Crus Classés in Margaux producing Cabernet Sauvignon dominant blends with more merlot than in the rest of the Médoc. The wines have typically complex aromas of spice, flowers and red berries, leading to supple, elegant yet powerful palates. They age extremely well.
