Brunello di Montalcino 2016
‘..like a well-muscled black stallion in its prime. They are dark yet radiant, expressive, nearly explosive at times, yet pure, poised and structured.’ Eric Guido, www.vinous.com
In Brunello di Montalcino the 2016 vintage was characterized by a mild winter and spring with higher than average minimum temperatures. After slightly advanced budding the vines flourished under good conditions. The summer was cool and mild, allowing for slow and even ripening over a long growing season.
Ripe tannins, deep colours, pure fruit and fresh acidity, marks out 2016 as an excellent vintage for the Sangiovese grape. The harvest began slightly earlier but ended around mid-October, a common theme amongst great vintages. This enabled producers to make an array of different expressions.
Our selection of 2016s, 2015 Riservas and juicy value 2019 Rosso, all show off the greatness of Sangiovese. The 2016s have intensity, elegance with structure to age. The 2015s possess the rich boldness and power of that warm vintage, whereas the beautiful 2016s have an exquisite precision and finesse from aroma to finish.
