Château Mouton Rothschild

Château Mouton Rothschild

Mouton Rothschild differs from the other First Growths of the Left Bank in that it wasn't included in the original 1855 classification. It was elevated in 1973 after a period of lobbying by Baron Philippe de Rothschild. The brand is characterised by a series of unique annual labels commissioned from famous artists. Characterised by its opulence, it is often the most approachable of the first growths with classic Pauillac aromas of black fruits, white pepper and a hint of cigar box always present in the wine. There are 82 hectares (203 acres) under vine. Like the wines at Château Margaux, vinification also takes place in oak vats which helps in defining the opulent style of the wine. A good second red, Le Petit Mouton, is made as well as a white, Aile d’Argent.
