Musigny, Grand Cru, Mugnier 1992
"A surprisingly deep color for the vintage at this point in its evolution. A fully mature nose that is both spicy and complex (but with no sous-bois) slides into nicely rich and unusually well-structured middle weight plus flavors that deliver excellent mid-palate concentration and length. This is not an especially elegant wine as the tannins are less refined that one expects from Mugnier, even during this era where the wines display a bit more extraction than they do today. Overall though, this was much better than the prior two examples that I have had, indeed so much so that I was left scratching my head a bit as the less interesting bottles were both drying out somewhat whereas this particular bottle had no such problem. I'm now curious to try another bottle to see which is the anomaly." Burghound
